cupcakery hidden gem.

18 Jul

first off, i adore cupcakes.

to be fair, i adore 90% of baked goods, but i’ve got a special spot carved out for cupcakes. the small but decadent portion is just right for topping off a special meal. this girl whole heartedly believes that good things come in small packages.

post dinner yesterday evening, the girls and i dropped into one of our favorite neighborhood dessert spots, Phoebe’s Cupcakes for an after dinner treat. located on broadway between aldine and buckingham place, Phoebe’s is right in the heart of lakeview and surrounded by stacks of great restaurants (wonderful asian & italian).

i’m listing this adorable cupcakery on my hidden gems list for the unique & mouth watering cupcake combinations as well as the quaint location in lakeview.  the menu is partially seasonal, and i’ve got to commend phoebe’s on a fresh and fun summer lineup.

a few of the summer inspired flavors of the week:

  • banana split
  • mango coconut
  • spumoni
  • blue moon (true summer nostalgia)
  • strawberry lemonade

and of course, they’ve got some year-round phoebe’s classics:

  • funfetti
  • salted caramel (probably the best on the menu)
  • breakfast cupcakes (dude, there is BACON on here)
  • peanut butter fudge brownie

i had the spumoni cupcake, and it was TO DIE FOR. what’s in that, you say? pistachio cake filled with vanilla cream and topped with cherry chunk butter cream frosting. upon all that sits a chunk of pistachio infused white chocolate

pardon the half eaten cupcake pic but i NEEDED to show you this.

katie had the tiramisu, which has a surprise expresso cream filling inside a vanilla cupcake.  it’s topped with marsalla wine cream cheese frosting & cocoa powder.

Phoebe’s is a special litte spot in lakeview, filled with plenty of sweet surprises. dinner followed by a trip to the cupcakery–sounds like a date to me!
