p4k music festival.

15 Jul

it’s a BIG week for music in the windy city!

friday marks the start of the pitchfork music festival, a three day event held in chicago’s union park, featuring stacks of indie bands spanning multiple genres.  i was PLEASANTLY surprised to see what an awesomely fantastic line-up they’ve corralled. since then, i’ve been anxiously the festival, dreaming of three days of blanket music listening intertwined with rocking out and shaking my hair.

last year i went for one day, mainly to see broken social scene and robyn. this time around the boy and i are treating ourselves to a little stay-cation (and taking some much needed time off) to chill out and soak in the tunes with friends. we’ll be attending all three days and hopefully (if i can conjure the energy) scoping out some after shows.

here’s the bands i’m especially excited to check out:

friday: james blake (image), battles, guided by voices, animal collective

saturday: cold cave (image), twin shadow, fleet foxes

sunday: how to dress well (image), twin sister, ariel pink’s haunted graffiti, deerhunter, toro y moi, cut copy

and as a lover of free things, i was over the top for pitchfork’s free festival sample. download the FREE 29 track sampler here. thanks to my friend katie for discovering this treat!

and HOLY ADORABLENESS, the pitchfork festival tees are beyond fun this year. definitely not free, but totally worth it. design by michael renaud. FTW.

if you’re also attending, you should for REALS download the free iphone app. check out this screen shots of the personalized schedule planner. i’m loving the design and thus far, it’s been really functional for scheduling/sharing.

i’ll update with show reviews after the festival.

see you there, chicago!
