fleet foxes.

earlier this year the Fleet Foxes released a long-awaited new album, Helplessness Blues. jam packed with lovely melodies, the careful marriage of harmonic pop and folk are enough to the charm the pants off just about anyone, including yours truly. i love the layers of their music.  the pastoral lyrics and instrumental elements could stand completely alone, together it’s bliss.

i recommend listening to the album in its entirety, but if you can only spare a second, my faves are Bedouin Dress and Helplessness Blues. click the links to listen via grooveshark!

i’m especially looking forward to their performance at pitchfork music festival this august. to hear Bedouin Dress and Helplessness Blues live will be summer time magic.

hands down, the Fleet Foxes’ performance at Lollapalooza in 2009 is my favorite show to date. on a cool summer afternoon during a monsoon storm, the fleet foxes quieted a full to the brim audience of (i assume) buzzed concert go-ers. you could hear a pin drop. i’d wager that other bands playing at the festival actually stopped to listen to their set. what continued was a breathtaking performance of their self titled debut album.

i was a fan prior to the show, but the amazement of their performance took my admiration of their talent to a new level.

check ’em out!
